Former England international and Wimbledon striker, John Fashanu has publicly refuted several claims made by his daughter, Amal Fashanu, in a recent Daily Mail feature on her upcoming lavish wedding to Ghanaian businessman, Mohamad Odaymat.

The article detailed plans for a high-profile wedding celebration expected to span Nigeria and Spain, with more than 600 guests reportedly billed to attend the multi-day ceremony.

Amal also spoke extensively about her renewed relationship with her father, claiming concerns over his health helped repair a previous rift between them.

In the publication, Amal suggested the 63-year-old ex-footballer had been dealing with health complications possibly linked to repeatedly heading footballs during his 17-year professional football career.

She further claimed she had been helping to manage his affairs, regularly visiting him in Nigeria and working closely with him on business projects.

However, in a strongly-worded statement made available to AIT.live, John Fashanu dismissed the claims as false and misleading. He insists that he is mentally and physically fit and denied suffering from any neurological condition associated with his football career.

He also rejected suggestions that Amal manages his personal, professional or business interests in any capacity. The former Gladiators television host clarified that Amal only recently visited him in Nigeria for the first time and is not responsible for any of his affairs or properties. He further warned members of the public not to transact business with her on his behalf.

Fashanu also addressed reports concerning his personal life, dismissing claims that he had been married five times. According to him, he has only been married three times and currently lives happily with his wife, Vivian Fashanu.

The former England striker expressed disappointment over the public comments made by his daughter but maintained that he still loves her despite their differences. He added that he is considering legal action against the Daily Mail over the publication, accusing the newspaper of failing to verify the allegations before publishing the story.

Fashanu concluded by reaffirming that he remains in good health and fully active despite the recent controversy surrounding the media reports.
