Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari,

Former United Nations, UN Under-Secretary-General and distinguished Nigerian diplomat, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, is to deliver the keynote address at the inauguration of Annual Diplomacy Day, in Abuja in November 20.

Professor Gambari, who was Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN and later Chief of Staff to late President Muhammadu Buhari, will speak on “Narrative Power and the Diplomacy of Influence: Nigeria, Africa and the Contest for Global Influence.”

His address is expected to interrogate the changing dynamics of international diplomacy, the strategic importance of national and continental narratives, and Africa’s capacity to shape perceptions and influence outcomes within an increasingly competitive global order.

Founder and Chief Executive of Media Diplomacy Studies, Dr. Mkpe Abang, says, the inaugural Annual Diplomacy Day, is convened as an independent research and policy think tank dedicated to advancing media diplomacy, strategic communication, soft power and international influence. The theme of the inaugural edition is “Diplomacy in a Changing World: Building Trust, Partnerships and Influence for Nigeria and Africa.”

AIT.live gathered that the occasion will be chaired by former Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Joe Keshi, who is the current president of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria, ARCAN.

A major highlight of the occasion will be the national presentation of the book “Weapons Of Mass Manipulation: State Media, Global Influence and the New Diplomacy of Power.” The book examines state media as an instrument of international diplomacy, the strategic construction of national narratives and the implications of information power for global influence.

Authored by Dr. Abang from doctoral research in International Relations and Diplomacy, the book will be reviewed by former Nigerian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Professor Abdullahi Shehu.
