An explosion has claimed the life of a child and left 10 others injured in Kidandan village in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria.
According to security reports, a pupil, under the guidance of a local Islamic cleric, unknowingly picked up an object from the bush, triggering an explosion while in the company of his fellow pupils.
The Kaduna State Police Command has deployed Explosive Ordinance Department operatives to investigate the incident and determine whether it was a bomb explosion.
Also confirming the tragedy, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement said that Zaidu Usman, one of the pupils, lost his life, while 10 others are receiving medical attention at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika.

Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani expressed shock and sadness over the incident, extending condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for the deceased and a swift recovery for the wounded.
The Governor urged heightened vigilance among parents and community leaders, emphasising the susceptibility of children to various dangers. He has also instructed the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to collaborate with security agencies for a prompt investigation into the explosion’s cause, ensuring residents’ safety, mobilising emergency support, and providing swift medical care to the victims.
