The Nigerian Army is poised to sustain its ongoing security operations to allow farmers return to their farmlands in crisis hit areas of Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.

Commander of One Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Gusau, Brigadier-General Sani Ahmed said this while distributing humanitarian aid to affected communities to mark the Army Day celebration and also enhance civil-military relations.

Nigeria’s current food crisis has been linked to the disruption of agricultural activities in Nigeria’s farming belt.

Already, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, FAO has projected that 32 million Nigerians and populations in some parts of Sub-saharan Africa, will face acute hunger between June and August 2024.

This perhaps explains why the Nigerian Army says it is increasing its security operations in bandits-hit areas according to Brigadier-General Ahmed said this while distributing humanitarian support to children in Gusau including educational materials, books and medical consumables.

The military authorities are calling on residents of the state to make things easier by volunteering credible intelligence to enable troops tackle the bandit crisis.

According to the Nigerian Army, a number of its personnel have lost their lives protecting farming communities, but says it remains undeterred in its operations.
