The Federal Capital Territory Administration is taking another step towards promoting environmental sustainability through a tree-planting initiative.
Tagged “Youth United for a Greener FCT,” the project is being implemented in qcollaboration with the National Progressive Youth Wing and the Youth Wing of the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Tagged “Youth United for a Greener FCT,” the project is being implemented in collaboration with the National Progressive Youth Wing and the Youth Wing of the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
The exercise was formally flagged off at a symbolic tree-planting ceremony attended by stakeholders committed to promoting a greener and more sustainable capital city.
The Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dolapo Fasawe, says the initiative is aimed at preserving Abuja’s green environment while supporting efforts to tackle the impacts of climate change.
For the youth leader, Israel Dayo, young people have a critical role to play in protecting the environment and addressing the consequences of past environmental inactions.
In recent years, Ethiopia has pursued an ambitious environmental restoration campaign under its Green Legacy programme.
The Acting Ambassador to Nigeria, Misgna Teklu Abrha say the collaboration provides an opportunity for both countries to share experiences and strengthen cooperation in building climate-resilient economies.
The collaboration with the Ethiopian Embassy also highlights the importance of Pan-African partnerships in confronting shared environmental and climate challenges.
The FCT Administration says the initiative will be sustained through continuous tree planting, maintenance of green spaces, and incentives for communities and organisations actively involved in environmental conservation.
With 500 trees to be planted across the city, the Youth United for a Greener FCT initiative is expected to support efforts to make Abuja cleaner, healthier and more resilient to the effects of climate change.
