The Federal Capital Territory Administration says 26,272 Certificates of Occupancy have been produced and signed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

This compares with 8,697 Certificates of Occupancy produced and signed in the FCT between 2010 and 2023.

According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, many beneficiaries of the certificates had received their land allocations more than a decade ago.

The FCT Administration says delays in obtaining Certificates of Occupancy have long affected property owners, particularly small and medium-sized businesses that require land documents to access credit and other financing opportunities.

It says the land documentation process has now been streamlined, enabling allottees who complete the required payments to receive their Certificates of Occupancy within two weeks.

Figures released by the FCT Administration show that 5,500 Certificates of Occupancy were produced and signed during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, while 3,197 were produced and signed during the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The FCT Administration also says it has granted 2,521 Consents to Assign and 177 Consents to Mortgage over the last three years.
