The Federal Capital Territory Administration is expanding access to safer cooking energy with the provision of gas cylinders for vulnerable households across its 6 area councils.
Known as ‘project breathe clean air-Abuja’, the Administration says the Initiative aims to reduce household air pollution and improve public health outcomes.
This is the grand finale of the project breathe clean air-Abuja at the Bwari area council of the FCT.
Launched in November 2025 by the health services and environment Secretariat of the Administration, the initiative is designed to reduce smoke related illnesses and household pollution by replacing the use of firewood and charcoal with liquefied petroleum gas, LPG.
Present at the event were government officials, traditional rulers and women drawn from the 6 area councils. They were presented with cylinders and gas refill vouchers as well as maternity packs for the pregnant women.
The participants were further trained on the safe use of cooking gas and educated on emergency safety procedures to promote proper handling and prevent accidents.
By replacing firewood and other polluting fuels with cleaner energy, the FCT Administration and its partners hope to improve air quality, and empower vulnerable households.
As this awareness campaign comes to a close, the focus now shifts to ensuring that these interventions translate into lasting behavioural change and healthier communities.
