The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC Chairman in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Stephen Nabayi, has appealed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to intervene in the ongoing primary school teachers’ strike.
In an exclusive telephone interview with AIT’s Abulu Osemuaghu, the FCT NLC Chairman, who also serves as the FCT Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, says that, contrary to media reports, the teachers began their strike on Monday, September 11, rather than September 14.
Nabayi says also that, contrary to reports, FCT UBEC Chairman, Alhassan Sule, has received a strike notice, but has yet to call for any negotiation with the striking workers.
Nabayi accused the six area council chairmen of showing negligence in matters concerning primary education.
He said among its demands is the nonpayment of 40 per cent of 25 months arrears, minimum wage implementation and several months of owed promotion arrears.
