The Federal Government says, it is committed to implementing policies that promote poverty reduction in the country.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Umar Farouq who stated this in Umuahia while flagging the Federal Government Cash Grant for Rural Women in Abia State, noted that the essence is to address some developmental challenges facing Nigeria.
Represented by her Permanent Secretary, Nura Alikali, the minister disclosed that the Special Investment Programme was designed to provide grants to the poor in rural communities.
The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu represented by his deputy, Ude Oko Chukwuand said the programme is packaged to empower 2,500 Abia rural women with a capital grant of N20,000 each.
Oko Chukwu recalled that the programme was part of President Muhammad Buhari’s pledge to lift 100m Nigerians out of poverty.

Meanwhile, the training and onboarding of independent monitors for the National Social Investment Programmes in Abia State have been concluded in Umuahia.
