The federal government has initiated plans to adopt mother tongue as an alternative meaning of learning tool in school.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing active communication and understanding in teaching and learning in public school in the country because of the difficulty with reading, writing as well as understanding teachings in English .
A non governmental organization, the USAID, and other partners in collaboration with the Bauchi State’s Universal Basic Education Board, are in Bauchi on a study visit for teachers development.

According to Suleiman Tanko, who is the Head Master of Kobi Primary School, Bauchi, and the Area Education Officer, the initiative has already made some remarkable success.
Even though the program is successful in Bauchi, the Commissioner for Education, Usman Tilde, still has doubt about the efficacy of the program.
