The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has appealed to university based unions to shelve their planned strike over witheld salaries and other demands, assuring them of government’s resolve to address all their concerns
The Minister said this when he met with the leadership of the senior staff association of Nigerian universities, SSANU and the Non-academic staff union, NASU, who are poised to declare strike at the expiration of their jointly issued ultimatum from July 6.
In a similar development, the chairman of the newly inaugurated board of the National open University of Nigeria, NOUN, isa Yuguda says addressing problems of law students of the institution, will be top on its agenda, as he commends the federal government for including NOUN undergraduates in the newly established Student loan scheme.
In another development, the reconstituted board of the University of Abuja has confirmed the appointment of Professor Aisha Maikudi as acting vice chancellor.
Aisha maikudi, a former deputy vice chancellor academics, was cleared for the position by the University Senate in June 2024.
