Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has applauded the efforts of the Cross River State Government to strengthen energy development, noting that the state possesses enormous renewable and hydro resources capable of transforming its economic fortunes.

Speaking in Calabar at the opening of the Energy Cross River Conference and Exhibition 2026, the Vice President assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting initiatives that will unlock investment and expand power infrastructure in the state.

Vice President Kashim Shettima says Cross River’s strategic coastal location, combined with its solar profile, gas resources and hydro potential, places the state in a strong position to drive energy-based industrial growth.

The Vice President who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Legal, Research and Compliance Matters, Bashir Maidugu, during the Energy Cross River Conference and Exhibition 2026, explained that ongoing reforms under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu are aimed at strengthening the petroleum and power sectors, while encouraging private sector investment in energy development.

The Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, described the conference as a critical platform for advancing the state’s long-term energy agenda.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Power, Eka Williams, highlighted the abundance of renewable resources in the state, adding that attracting sustainable financing remains key to converting these natural advantages into reliable energy supply.

The Energy Cross River Conference and Exhibition 2026 underscores the critical role of strategic dialogue in shaping the state’s energy future, bridging policy, investment, and innovation to unlock sustainable power, drive economic growth, and position Cross River as a leading energy hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
