There is an intervention fund of N5 billion earmarked for the six geopolitical zones and Abuja to set up of a model Academic Publishing Centres (APCs), to provide opportunity for the country’s writers, thinkers and artists to produce indigenous books, to discourage overseas production.
This was made known by the Board of Trustees of The Tertiary Education Trust fund, TETFUND, during an assessment visit to the Academic Publishing Centre, situated at the Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola.
The Chairman and the Executive Secretary of Fund during the hand over of the North-East Academic Publishing Centre in Yola said, the N5 billion set aside for the setting up of similar centres across universities in the 6 geopolitical zones of the country is to aid indigenous academic publications in the country’s tertiary institutions.
The heads of institutions had an interactive session, where the Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of instituions in the North-East presented concerns peculiar to their institutions.
The issue of limited funding from government was also highlighted by the Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu, Borno State, Professor Kyari Mohammad.

He said, the government should fund the education system and allow Tetfund fill in the gap in the sector as an intervention agency.
The intervention of Tetfund was highly commended by the heads of the federal and state public instituions across the North-East geopolitical zone.
On her part, Vice Chancellor of the Adamawa State University, Mubi, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta listed areas of interventions by Tetfund after the school was destroyed by insurgents.
With the establishment of Academic Publishing Centres across the country, it is hoped that the education sector will begin to witness a paradigm shift.
