The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25th August 2026 a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, celebrated in remembrance of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement signed by the Permanent secretary, ministry of interior, Magdalene Ajani, the Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government, while extending his warm felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
Tunji- Ojo said the period should serve as a time for collective prayer for peace, noting that national unity remains a shared responsibility.

He also urged citizens to observe the celebration with restraint and mutual respect, wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid.
