The National Universities Commission (NUC), has been directed to expedite action towards the completion of the Nuclear Energy Curriculum to enable Nigerian Universities, the Atomic Energy Commission and Polytechnics to start the training of Nuclear Scientists and Technologists locally.
The Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Sununu gave the directive in a message on behalf of the Education Minister, Professor Tahir Mamman, when he met with the leadership of the Nigerian Nuclear Energy Commission.
A statement by the Education Ministry’s spokesman, Ben Goong says the Minister also indicated that the Federal Government will prioritize the award of scholarships to students wishing to study Nuclear Science and related courses within and outside Nigeria.
On his part, the Director-General of the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission, NAEC, Professor Aminu Ahmed disclosed that the Commission is currently partnering with the Korean and Chinese governments, to meet its training needs for Nuclear Scientists.
Professor Ahmed emphasized that human capital development is critical for the country in the pursuit of a Nuclear programme, in meeting her energy and pharmaceutical needs.
