Federal High Court Abuja has adjourned to November 4, 2026, hearing of a suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of Greater Mbaise Development, seeking an order compelling the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Power to facilitate the completion of the abandoned Mbaise Transmission Power and Transmission Line Projects in Imo State, South-East Nigeria.
The court had at its last sitting granted the plaintiffs leave to file a motion seeking an order of mandamus to compel the defendants to complete the project.
Other defendants in the suit are the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, parties regularised their processes, although the TCN was not represented in court.
After hearing from the parties, the trial judge adjourned the matter for hearing and directed that all parties be duly served with the relevant processes before the next adjourned date.
The plaintiffs claim that the project, which commenced in 2009, has remained abandoned despite several efforts to engage the defendants over its completion.
