The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has condemned cases of alleged extra-judicial killings and illegal arrest of persons labelled as terrorists’ informants by the volunteer group popularly known as Yansakai in Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria.
State’s Coordinator of the Commission, Abdullahi Abubakar says they are investigating five of such cases and will make necessary recommendations to the authorities.

NHRC is calling on Governor Dauda Lawal and the military to engage the various communities on better ways of obtaining intelligence without taking the laws into their hands.
Residents of Zamfara State have suffered from violent activities of bandits who abduct and kill at will, especially in rural communities of the state, leading to the formation of local vigilante and volunteer groups to resist the deadly attacks
