The Federal Government has launched the Northern Corridor of the Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicle Programme in Kano, in a major push to ease transportation challenges and reduce the cost of mobility across Northern Nigeria.
Vice president Kashim Shettima, who performed the launch through his Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hadija, said the roll out will boost inter-city transportation, movement of goods and services, and strengthen economic activities Kano state
Kano, widely regarded as Nigeria’s commercial hub in the North, witnesses massive daily movement of people, goods, and services, with transportation playing a critical role in sustaining trade and economic activities.

At the launch of the Northern Corridor of the Presidential CNG and Electric Vehicle Programme, Vice President Kashim Shettima, represented by his Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hadeja, said the roll out of these two hundred tricycles and forty Compressed Natural Gas-powered vehicles by the Tinubu administration will improve access to safer and cleaner mobility alternatives.
Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Ismaeel Ahmed, said the federal government plans to further expand the programme before the end of 2026 to other states.
