The Federal Government says every procedure is on course for the negotiation of a new National Minimum Wage with the current N70,000 due for review next year.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kamil Shoretire stated this during a one-day workshop on activities of the ministry, as the trade union’s Public Service Negotiating Council is already pushing for N500,000 minimum wage, and a reduction in petrol pump price reduction to N500 per litre.
Shoretire also disclosed that Nigeria has met the September 1 deadline issued by the International Labour Organisation, ILO to react to a report filed by African workers, accusing the country of failing to resolve issues at NURTW, Edo NLC, Lagos TUC and others. Nigeria responded to its failure to implement Convention 187.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government says it is ready to collaborate with relevant bodies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of 37 miners in an NSCDC detention facility in Niger State, North-Central Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary, who gave the commitment, said the Labour Factory Inspectorate Department of the ministry is ready to work with the committee set up by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Ojo on unravelling the circumstances which led to the demise of the miners.
