FG reconstitutes team to renegotiate 2009 Asuu agreement

The Federal Government has reconstituted a team to renegotiate the 2009 agreement it reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, 13 years ago

A statement by the Director of Press in the Federal Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, said reconstituting the team is necessary, to speedily bring to a conclusion, all outstanding issues in the 2009 agreement, to achieve the desired industrial peace in public universities.

According to the Education Minister, the chairman and members of the reconstituted 2009 FGN/University-Based Unions’ Agreements Re-negotiation Team are, Professor Emeritus Nimi Briggs, Pro-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo as Chairman, while the members are Lawrence Patrick Ngbale, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Wukari, representing North East, Prof. Funmi Togunu-Bickersteth, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, South West and Senator Chris Adighije, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University, Lokoja, South East.

Other members are Professor Olu Obafemi, Pro-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, North-Central, Professor Zubairu Iliyasu, Pro-Chancellor, Kano State University of Science & Technology, North West and Barrister Matthew B. Seiyefa, Pro-Chancellor, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, South-South.

The statement said the team will be inaugurated by the Minister.

It added that all advisers and observers in the Federal Government/University-based Unions 2009 Agreements Re-negotiation Team are expected to attend the inauguration.

The delay in reconstituting the renegotiation team for the FGN/ASUU Agreement is a top demand of the University lecturers, leading to the ongoing one-month warning strike.
