A former Governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, has called on the Federal Government to intervene massively in the agriculture sector for increased food production.
Nyako made the appeal during a meeting with the newly elected officials of the National Farmers Association of Nigeria, NFAN, in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Friday.

He said, “Opportunities in the agriculture sector can take the country’s economic growth to the next level.’’
While encouraging the newly elected executives to be proactive and work in harmony for increased food production, the former governor explained the situation of food in the country and what needs to be done.
Nyako said that if the association will have the government’s full support, agriculture will become more attractive for youth involvement especially the ones with the knowledge of ICT and the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, will grow.
Nyako urged the Nigerian farmers to thrive and ensure enough food for the growing population.
He noted that the country’s cash crop subsector is gradually declining and advised that the farmers should not relent in ensuring the growth of the subsector.
