The Federal Government has summoned the Acting High Commissioner of South Africa to a meeting scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abuja.
The move follows rising concerns over ongoing protests in South Africa reportedly targeting foreign nationals, including Nigerians, and attacks on Nigerian-owned businesses.
In a statement, Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said the meeting will address the demonstrations and documented cases of alleged mistreatment of Nigerian citizens.

The Federal Government says it is closely monitoring the situation and remains committed to protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of Nigerians living in South Africa.
While acknowledging growing concerns among citizens at home, the government has urged Nigerians to remain calm and law-abiding.
