FG takes AFCFTA trade opportunities to north-west states

Nigerian government has launched a nationwide campaign to promote the processing of raw materials, particularly in the food and non-oil sector, into export-ready finished goods.

The national sensitisation tour which began in Kano, targeting states in the North-West region according to the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwale, is to leverage on opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, to boost local production and expand Nigeria’s export capacity.

Northern Nigeria is known for producing a wide range of goods, including processed foods, herbal supplements, traditional fabrics, and a variety of food made from grains

According to the minister, many of these products are already in high demand across international markets as the national tour, uses the AfCFTA as a framework to educate local producers on export opportunities and strategies to make their goods competitive globally.

The National Coordinator of the initiative, Patience Okala, says the benefits for Nigerian traders and the broader economy are significant

The Kano State Government which was present at the opening ceremony praises the initiative, with participants drawn largely from the informal sector with exhibition, allowing producers to showcase export-ready products.
