The Federal Government has inaugurated a 7-member Technical Committee on the Revitalization of Extension Service Workers.
Speaking during the inauguration in Abuja, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono said that agricultural development in Nigeria requires an integrated approach to revive extension advisory services.
The Minister noted that the Committee is expected to stimulate technology adoption and embed Good Agricultural Practice, GAP towards improving food requirements and industrial expectations.
While inaugurating the Committee, Nanono charged the team to design a training mechanism for agricultural extension workers in the next 2 years and recommend measures for the upgrading of extension training institutions across the country.
The Minister further said the committee would assist the Ministry in developing a workable framework and actionable programme for the training of 75,000 extension workers in collaboration with State Agricultural Development Projects, ADPs.

He stressed the need to review extension services modules and practices implemented in Nigeria with a view to making them more effective and efficient.
On his part, the Chairman of the Committee, Frank Kudla who is the Director Extension Services in the Ministry, pledged that the team would work assiduously to deliver on its mandate.
The Technical Committee is made up of the following members: Director, Federal Department of Agriculture, Karima I. Babangida; Director, NAERLS, Prof. M.K Othman; Director, SASAKAWA, Prof. Sani Miko; Resource Person, ADP Bauchi Rose Idi; Resource Person, Dr. Oyebanji O. Olumide; and Resource Person, Minister’s Office, Umar Wali.
