The Federal Government, in partnership with the UNDP and the Rural Electrification Agency, REA, has launched the Africa Minigrids Program, AMP, Nigeria National Pilot Pipelines.

The initiative targets clean, affordable energy for underserved rural communities to boost agriculture, jobs, and livelihoods nationwide.

The AMP is a GEF-funded initiative, supported by UNDP and implemented by REA – it will serve as a key enabler of REA’s Energizing Agriculture Programme, EAP, in Nigeria

The project will deploy standardized solar-powered mini-grids to productive agricultural clusters across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe is optimistic that that communities will be transformed into productive economies, strengthen food systems, attract investment, as well as expand businesses

Officials stated that the programme will link clean energy directly to agriculture and rural enterprises.

The Rural Electricity Agency, REA is committing over $550 million in financing for the Nigeria Electrification Project and the Rural Electrification Fund to deliver clean, reliable, and affordable electricity to millions of Nigerians.

With the Africa Mini-grids Program, Nigeria’s energy access gap is expected to be addressed head on with, one solar-powered community at a time.

ait.live reports that the event brought together government officials, development partners, diplomats, private sector players, renewable energy developers, investors, and representatives from beneficiary communities.
