The Federal government has facilitated the mobilisation of more than100 billion naira in previously unaccessed universal basic education commission, UBEC’s matching grants by states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba made the disclosure in Abuja during a media chat with journalists, where she highlighted the Commission’s achievements under its ongoing reforms.
Garba who described the development as a major milestone in efforts to improve the quality of basic education across the country, explained that the recovered funds were now being channelled into improving learning environments in public basic schools nationwide.

The UBEC executive secretary added that the Commission had also established more than 2,300 Early Childhood Care Development Education, ECCDE Centres to strengthen foundational learning for young children.
Garba further disclosed that the Commission had invested over ₦20.4 billion in teacher professional development, noting that the intervention was aimed at improving classroom instruction, strengthening school leadership and enhancing accountability through the Effective Schools Programme and School-Based Management Committees.
