Youths in the Niger Delta have been told to be ambassadors of the ongoing clean up exercise in Ogoniland and stand up against vandalism and theft of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) facilities.

HYPREP project coordinator, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, who represented the minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, said this during at the business proposal development workshop in Port Harcourt.

He said the Federal government, through HYPREP’s workshop initiative, is seeking to introduce alternative means of livelihood to the people within the hydrocarbon-impacted communities of Ogoniland

Zabbey also described the initiative as a continuation of the commission’s commitment to empowering Ogoni youths, following the success of the career enhancement and employability workshops which were held recently in line with recommendations contained in the United nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)report.

Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, while encouraging the Ogoni youths to fully engage and take advantage of the workshop, urged the people to be worthy ambassadors of the Ogoni clean up exercise.

The workshop was specifically designed to equip the youths with requisite knowledge in writing various proposals, sourcing funds, and obtaining scholarships for further studies and other possible opportunities such as investment.
