The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, says more than 150 terrorists, including 50 commanders and their affiliates, have surrendered to Nigerian troops in the last few weeks.
In a statement signed by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the development reflects the cumulative impact of sustained intelligence-led operations, intensified military pressure and coordinated kinetic and non-kinetic efforts aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities and encouraging voluntary disengagement.
Goni said the increase in surrenders is a significant indicator of growing pressure within terrorist formations, particularly on their freedom of movement, logistics, sustainment, and ability to retain personnel within their enclaves.
He added that the recovery of weapons and ammunition from some of the surrendering terrorists further underscores the impact of sustained military pressure on terrorist networks.
According to the military, the surge in surrenders also demonstrates the growing effectiveness of Operation HADIN KAI’s comprehensive counter-insurgency strategy, which combines intelligence-led operations with strategic communication, civil-military engagement and other non-kinetic measures.
The Army said these efforts are disrupting terrorist activities and support networks, weakening hostile narratives, and encouraging more fighters to disengage from terrorism.
It noted that strategic communication remains central to the campaign by delivering credible messages to those willing to abandon terrorism while highlighting the consequences of continued association with terrorist groups.
The Theatre Command promised to sustain the current momentum to encourage further surrenders and weaken terrorist recruitment and sustainment mechanisms.
The Military High Command commended the troops for their resilience, discipline, and operational effectiveness, urging them to sustain the pressure and continue denying terrorist elements freedom of action across the theatre.
