Financial Inclusion: Gombe Stakeholders push for greater access to digital payment services

GOMBE
GOMBE STATE

As Nigeria continues its transition towards a digital economy, stakeholders are advocating greater financial inclusion to ensure that every citizen can safely access and benefit from modern payment systems.

The conversation took centre stage in Gombe, where financial experts, business owners, and members of the public examined how alternative payment channels can expand economic opportunities, strengthen financial literacy, and support sustainable national development.

In markets, on commercial tricycles, at fuel stations and neighbourhood shops, the sound of payment alerts has become as familiar as the exchange of cash.

From buying groceries and paying transport fares to receiving salaries and transferring money across the country, digital transactions are steadily changing the way Nigerians live and do business.

Yet, millions of Nigerians—particularly those in rural and underserved communities—remain excluded from the formal financial system, limiting their access to banking services, credit facilities, and other economic opportunities.

It was these realities that brought together financial experts, regulators, entrepreneurs, and residents in Gombe to discuss practical ways of expanding financial inclusion through alternative payment channels.

Participants described the engagement as timely, saying many Nigerians still require greater awareness of digital banking services, consumer rights, and safe electronic transactions.

Stakeholders say expanding financial inclusion will require sustained public education, innovation, and collaboration to ensure that every Nigerian can participate fully in the country’s evolving digital economy.
