Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has cautioned the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 21 local government councils against abandoning their duty posts for unnecessary visits to the state capital at the expense of their people.
The Governor gave the charge while swearing in the council chairmen at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yola, reminding them that they have a sacred responsibility to fulfil their campaign promises and uphold the oath of office.
With the successful conclusion of the local government elections in Adamawa State, a new chapter of grassroots governance has begun across the state’s 21 local government areas.
An atmosphere of excitement filled the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yola, as government officials, political stakeholders, and supporters gathered to witness the inauguration of the newly elected council chairmen.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri arrived at the venue alongside his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, and members of the State Executive Council.
The Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, administered the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office to the newly elected chairmen.
Addressing the council chairmen, Governor Fintiri stressed the importance of accountability, transparency, and commitment to service, describing local government as the closest tier of government to the people.
Responding on behalf of the chairmen, the Chairman of Yola North Local Government Council, Jibrin Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the Governor for his leadership and confidence in them, assuring the people of their commitment to effective and people-oriented governance.
The newly inaugurated chairmen are expected to return to their respective local government areas to inaugurate the elected councillors and commence full administrative activities, as residents look forward to improved service delivery and the dividends of democracy.
