Flooding kills three persons in Nasarawa State

Three deaths have been reported as 92 communities in five Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, North-Central Nigeria are submerged by flood that has destroyed houses, farmland and livestock.

Director-General of Nasarawa State Emegency Management Agency, NASEMA, Zachary Allumaga in an interview with AIT.live in Lafia said government is continually restrategising to manage the natural disaster.

Nasarawa State was among 13 states listed as prone to flooding in 2022 and issued a warning by relevant federal authorities.

Following an increase in rainfall, the release of water from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon and other factors flood has affected the local government areas of Awe, Doma, Nasarawa Toto, and Karu.

Allumaga explained that sensitisation and warnings are always done to people who live in flood-prone areas, but yet casualties are recorded yearly.

More evacuation of flood victims to safer places is ongoing with relief materials from the government and good spirited individuals to provide succour.

For the Nasarawa Governor, Abdullahi Sule, interventions and projects to address flooding in the state will be put in place.

So far over 465,000 persons have been displaced in the five local government areas affected by the flood in the state.
