Some residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital, in South-West Nigeria are calling on Government to assist them in reducing the impact of the flood ravaging their communities which also lead to the death of a middle-aged man and several property destroyed.
In response, the State Government has
enjoined residents to avoid dumping of waste into drains, rivers and to always embrace good environmental habits.
The torrential rain over the weekend lasted for several hours degenerating into flooding that affected several areas in the state capital.
A middle-aged man who was said to be returning from work was swept away, losing his life in the flood.
Several communities suffered from the severe flooding as many access roads were cut off due to the rainfall that started on Friday and lasted for more than 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who visited some of the affected communities said Government was taking steps to contain flooding in the State.
The residents further called for Government’s intervention and also to help dredge the water to prevent future recurrence.
