Flooding has killed 245 people and affected 673,350 others across 28 states, according to the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA.
The agency says 134 local government areas have been affected.
NEMA Director-General Zubaida Umar disclosed the figures at the National Emergency Coordination Forum, where stakeholders are reviewing the impact of flooding, the threat of cholera outbreaks and other disaster risks.
The National Emergency Coordination Forum is examining how agencies can improve their response to flooding, cholera outbreaks and other emergencies.
Convened by NEMA, the meeting is reviewing figures from the agency’s 2026 flood dashboard to assess the damage, identify gaps in disaster response and strengthen protection for vulnerable communities.
NEMA also highlighted the public health risks associated with flooding, particularly when floodwaters contaminate water sources and worsen sanitation conditions.
The agency says these conditions increase the risk of cholera outbreaks in affected communities.
NEMA wants sustained cooperation among stakeholders to improve preparedness, respond promptly to disasters and help communities withstand future emergencies.
