The need to change the security apparatus of Nigeria has again been stressed, following the renewed waves of banditry and insurgency across the country.
The former governor and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, said this during the inauguration of the State Caucus Committee of the party.
He stressed that the rejigging of the security structure is the only solution, apart from prayers.
Describing the current state of the nation as unfortunate, former governor, Shema said, security should not be left in the hands of government alone, rather, all hands need to be on deck, to curtail the menace.
He added that to ensure the trend is nipped in the bud as soon as possible, the rejigging of the entire security network of the country, which is long over due, with change of tactics inclusive, is the only way out.
Shema further expresses optimism that, with the recent inauguration of the national reconciliation committee of the party, the Peoples Democratic Party is set to bounce back and wax stronger.
He debunked rumors of him nursing plans to leave the party.
The state chairman of the party and chairman of the state caucus committee, Salisu Majigiri, are of the view that, the party has concluded its constitutional mandate, with the inauguration of the committee, and is set for the 2023 general elections.
Majigiri further believes that, what the country needs right now is a more purposeful and directional leadership, which have been missing since 2015 at all levels of government.
