The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says it is alarmed by the reported foiled attack against its presidential candidate and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and other sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa State, North-East Nigeria.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party insists that by the confession of some of the arrested assailants, the plot was a sponsored attempt on the life of Atiku Abubakar by alleged forces who are unsettled by his bid to retrieve his mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Court.
The party however charged the Inspector-General of Police to take the lead provided by the arrested assailants to track down their sponsors and bring them to book in the interest of security, unity and wellbeing of the country.
The party also commended what it describes as the collaborative effort of people of Yola and other security agencies for foiling the attack while urging Nigerians to remain calm and alert even as authorities commence investigation into the dastardly act.
