The Rivers State Government has inaugurated an inter-ministerial Task Force on food safety to ensure that the supply chain adheres to highest standards and hygiene.
Inaugurating the Task Force, Commissioner for Agriculture, Victor Kii said the initiative would safeguard public health with enhanced public awareness on food security and safety practices.
Members of the Task Force are drawn from the Ministries of Agriculture, Health, Environment, Justice and other relevant agencies.

Kii said the Task Force would strengthen the state inspection and regulation mechanisms to ensure compliance with standards and hygiene of the food supply chain. He added that the initiative is Governor Sim Fubara’s commitment to the overall well-being of Rivers State citizens, especially in what they eat.
The Commissioner charged the Task Force to ensure proper hygiene and waste management of abattoirs and other processing areas to ensure compliance with international best practices.
