Former Italy striker, Toto Schillaci

Italian icon Salvatore Schillaci, the top scorer at the 1990 World Cup, has died aged 59.

He is renowned for his exploit on home soil at the 1990 FIFA World Cup where he scored six goals emerging as the winner of the golden boot; award for the top scorer.

The legendary footballer left an indelible mark on the sport, especially during the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where he also won the Golden Ball award as the tournament’s best player, surpassing notable figures like Lothar Matthäus and Diego Maradona.

Schillaci’s football career was nothing short of remarkable.

Born in Palermo, Italy, he began playing for Messina in 1982 and later joined Juventus, where he won the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup titles.

His time with Juventus was followed by stints at Internazionale Milan where he won the UEFA Cup winners cup in the 93-94 season and Júbilo Iwata in Japan.

Schillaci’s legacy extends beyond his impressive football career.

He will be remembered for his exceptional skill, dedication, and passion for the sport.
