No fewer than four persons have reportedly been killed in gang violence which has occurred around the Swali, Gwegwe and Obele suburbs of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital in South-South Nigeria.

It was gathered that the latest upsurge in violence was connected to a battle of supremacy between the Bobos and De-well Cult groups in the metropolis.

The ongoing development has created panic in the areas where the clashes have occurred.

ait.live learnt that that the Bobos and De-well Cult groups engaged themselves in a deadly fight in the Swali area which saw many residents scampering for safety.

As at the time of filing this report, police checkpoints have been mounted at violence prone parts of the town to prevent total breakdown of law and order.

While reasons for the spike in gang murders are yet to be determined, fingers have been pointed at desperate politicians who are patronising the cult groups ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The clash is coming less than a week after a final year student of the Federal University Otuoke was gunned down at Imiringi community in Ogbia Local Government Area.

When contacted, The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Buswat however put the number of deaths at two, adding that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the latest cult violence.
