Eighteen persons have been arrested in connection with last Sunday’s communal crisis in the Oju Local Government Area in Benue State, which led to the loss of four lives and the destruction of properties.
The suspects were paraded at the Police Command Headquarters in Makurdi, the state capital.
The Benue State Government is set to institute a judicial commission of inquiry into the crisis.
Two dominant communities of Oju Local Council, Ibilla and Oju who are at loggerheads, degenerated into killings and destruction of enormous proportion.
According to an eyewitness account, the crisis started when a Federal Government licence for a private university was secured by one of their illustrious sons, who moved to the site on the Ibilla part of the local council.
