Strong indications have emerged that former presidential candidates, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, may be on the verge of exiting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for a new political platform, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside their supporters.
A source within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, who spoke on condition of anonymity in Kano, said the planned defection could happen as early as next week following consultations by both leaders and key stakeholders.
The source cited ongoing legal battles involving the ADC as a major factor, warning that the situation could affect the party’s ability to field candidates in future elections.

According to the source, electoral timelines are tightening, with political parties expected to submit updated registers within days, making an urgent decision critical.
In Kano, preparations are reportedly underway, with members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement on standby to begin registration with the NDC once a formal directive is issued.
The anticipated defection could significantly weaken the ADC’s growing political momentum following recent coalition efforts.
