Efforts to reconcile members of the Rainbow Coalition and supporters of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara have recorded further progress, with both sides expressing optimism that their political differences can be resolved.
The development followed a second meeting in two weeks between the Reconciliation and Reintegration Committee, Governor Fubara and his supporters, as part of efforts to forge a common political front in Rivers State.
Chairman of the Reconciliation and Reintegration Committee, Magnus Abe, says progress has been made in addressing differences, rebuilding trust and establishing a framework for members of the various political groups to work together.
Abe describes the latest engagement as another important step towards achieving lasting political peace in Rivers State.
Both sides say dialogue and a willingness to accommodate differences remain central to the reconciliation process, with assurances that members will be integrated into the political family without discrimination.
They express satisfaction with the progress made so far and insist that political differences can be resolved when those involved are willing to place the interests of Rivers State above individual considerations.
Further engagements are expected as both sides work towards full reintegration and a common political front.
The participants say the ultimate objective is to promote political stability, unity and cooperation in Rivers State.
