As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on residents of the state to embrace peace and unity as essential to development.
In a goodwill message, Governor Fubara urged Rivers people to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence and renew their commitment to peaceful coexistence.
He said political differences are normal in a democracy but should not be allowed to undermine the collective interest of Rivers State.
The Governor described peace as critical infrastructure, saying the relative stability in the state has created an enabling environment for investment and development projects.
Fubara appealed to youths, traditional rulers, political leaders and other stakeholders to promote peace in their communities, stressing that no one benefits when the state is in crisis.
He also urged Rivers people to support the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu, saying national unity and cooperation are essential to achieving sustainable development.
