Former Nigerian leader, General Abdulsalami Abubakar is out of hospital where he had gone for treatment.
The confirmation came from Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu who posted on his Facebook account that he just visited the former Head of State and that the former military leader was out of hospital.
News reports on Monday morning had it that Abdulsalami was seriously ill and flown abroad for treatment.
There was however no official statement from the family of the retired General to that effect.
Garba Shehu on Monday evening suggested the ailment wasn’t serious. He wrote “Alhamdu Lillahi for Allah’s mercy. I just ended a visit to His Excellency Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Head of State. He is out of hospital in a London apartment and apparently in no serious condition.
“He was his jovial self, maintaining a keen interest in developments back at home in Nigeria. Please, no cause for alarm”.
General Abdulsalami is the Chairman of the National Peace Committee, a non-governmental organization comprising elder statesmen set up in 2014 to mitigate threats occasioned by the 2015 General Elections.
The group has since then encouraged initiatives to promote peaceful and credible elections, the latest being the Peace Accord signed by Governorship candidates in Ekiti state last Wednesday.
