The Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed claims suggesting that he was not cleared to participate in Thursday’s Governorship Primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula the Governor insisted that he was duly screened and cleared by the APC Governorship Screening Committee headed by the Party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
Alia said his name remains on the official list of cleared aspirants, countering circulating reports that had suggested otherwise.
He dismissed the rumour, urging party members to disregard what he described as misinformation.
Kula, who described the Governor as a “star man,” called on APC faithful to mobilise to ward centres and support the party’s direct primary process.
He added, “The Committee that screened ‘the others’ was different. As such, this committee of ‘the others’ cannot publish the list of a more privileged committee that presided over the screening of sitting Governors.”
Conflicting lists of cleared APC governorship aspirants had earlier circulated online, with one version excluding Governor Alia and another including his name alongside four other aspirants.
