Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called on political actors and citizens to safeguard the peace and stability of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Mohammed made the call in his Independence Day message as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor cautioned against the use of ethnicity, religion and sectional interests to create division, stressing that political engagement should be driven by ideas rather than conflict.
He particularly appealed to youths not to allow themselves to be used for political thuggery, violence or the disruption of public peace.
The Governor also acknowledged the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of living, and assured residents that his administration remains committed to improving their welfare through investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and economic empowerment.
Governor Mohammed described the 2026 Independence Anniversary as his last with the people of Bauchi State in his present capacity as Governor.
He expressed appreciation to residents for their support and prayers, while calling for renewed commitment to peace, unity and the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria.
