Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has reiterated the calls for increased security surveillance at the border communities, with the neighbouring states of Delta and Rivers in ensuring that Bayelsa does not become a safe haven to the criminal elements.
The worsening security situation across Nigeria has continued to generate palpable tensions among the citizens just as the leaders of various regions and states are already seeking ways of safeguarding the lives of their people.

At the weekly EXCO meeting, the Governor expressed worries over the recent attacks on the border communities between the Abua/ Odual council area of Rivers state and Ogbia in Bayelsa State.
The Bayelsa Governor was also uncomfortable with the recent report where the United States listed Bayelsa among the states with security flashpoints in Nigeria.
In winning the fight against the prevailing security challenges, the citizens, he said, must see it as a collective responsibility, hence his call on Bayelsans to be vigilant and to protect the state from any person or group with criminal tendencies.
