The Bayelsa state governor, Douye Diri has imposed eleven hours curfew on commercial tricycles from 7pm to 6am within Yenagoa metropolis and environs.
Governor Diri made the announcement this Thursday at a meeting with government officials, traditional rulers, leadership of the road transport unions, representatives of the Arewa community as well as security heads in Government house, Yenagoa.

Following the unrest that engulfed parts of the state capital on Wednesday as a result of a disagreement over transport fare between a tricycle operator and a passenger which claimed both lives and led to the destruction of over thirty tricycles, the leadership of Epie Kingdom, and that of Arewa community, tricycle operators and other key actors paid a visit to the Government house.
The invite which is at the instance of the Governor, Douye Diri is to calm frayed nerves and prevent further appraisal attacks.

Governor Douye Diri sends a message of peace to all aggrived parties and warns that his administration will not tolerate any act that will truncate peaceful coexistence between indegenes and non-indegenes in the state.
The Chairman, Bayelsa state council of Imams Abusufiyan Uche, assures that the muslim community will not relent in abiding by the laws that governs the state.
The Governor also directs security operatives to arrest anyone found in illegal possession of weapons, stressing that the laws of the state and Nigeria forbids such practices.
