Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development as a tool for youth empowerment and economic opportunity.
Governor Eno stated this in Uyo while receiving the Unity Torch to mark the commencement of the 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival.
Governor Umo Eno says sports is a multi-billion-dollar industry with huge potential for young people.
The Governor noted that the maiden edition of the festival helped discover and nurture grassroots talents, citing the State’s impressive performances at the Niger Delta Games and the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
He also announced rewards for Akwa Ibom athletes who distinguished themselves at the competitions.
Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, commended Governor Eno for his commitment to sports development, which he said has helped nurture talents to the global stage.
The 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival is scheduled to begin on September 22.
