Residents of Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, may soon heave a sigh of relief as Governor Dauda Lawal says the rehabilitation of the state’s waterworks is nearing completion.
The governor gave the assurance during an inspection of the waterworks and other ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.
Governor Dauda Lawal’s inspection tour began at the Zamfara State Water Board facilities in Gusau, where rehabilitation work is being carried out to restore water supply to the state capital.
The facilities, which were in a state of disrepair before the present administration took office, are undergoing rehabilitation in two phases.
The first phase covers facilities near the river supplying raw water, while the second focuses on water treatment and distribution infrastructure.
From the waterworks, the governor proceeded to Sir Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Gusau, where renovation work is ongoing to upgrade the facilities and provide modern sporting equipment in line with FIFA standards.
Governor Lawal also inspected an electric vehicle charging station established by the state government to support its clean energy transportation initiative.
The project follows the government’s procurement of 50 electric vehicles intended for commercial taxi services within Gusau.
Speaking to journalists after the inspection, the governor said his administration was developing modalities for public-private partnerships to ensure the effective operation and long-term sustainability of the electric vehicle charging stations.
The inspection tour is aimed at monitoring project implementation, ensuring quality standards and promoting the timely completion of infrastructure projects across Zamfara State.
