Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, says ongoing reforms by the Federal Government are creating opportunities for states, but those opportunities will benefit states that are prepared to take advantage of them.

Mbah spoke at a Thanksgiving Mass in Enugu to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

For Governor Peter Mbah, Nigeria’s journey at 66 should not be viewed only through the challenges confronting the country, but also through emerging opportunities for development.

Speaking at the Thanksgiving Mass held at the Government House Chapel in Enugu, Mbah said reforms by the present administration have created opportunities which states must position themselves to harness.

The Governor pointed to developments in Enugu State as evidence that difficult circumstances can be changed through deliberate choices and what he described as the courage to undertake difficult reforms.

He urged Nigerians to approach the country’s future with courage, faith and a determination to confront its challenges.

Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Callistus Onaga, acknowledged the difficulties still facing Nigerians, but said developments in areas such as security and infrastructure in Enugu demonstrate that progress is possible.

As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the message from the Thanksgiving Mass was that the country’s challenges remain, but governments and citizens must take advantage of available opportunities to improve living conditions and sustain development.
